HERE’S WHAT OUR

CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY.

Business Challenge
Bega’s Strathmerton processing plant produces milk, cheese and rework, but has limited storage facilities and as such relies on other operations to provide that service. However, it is vital that Bega can access their produce quickly if needed, especially the rework material. Pullar Cold Storage proved to have just the solution Bega were looking for.
The Solution
Pullar Cold Storage was able to take up to 5,000 pallets from Bega. It is very important to Bega that they can retrieve their produce at short notice, and is able to perform inspections quickly (for example to check use-by dates and to carry out quality control checks). Often there is a need to access a specific product urgently, or bring a product in at short notice. Also, during the end of year cycle count, Bega needs immediate access to all of their stock.
The Solution (Continued)
Pullar Cold Storage have no difficulty accommodating all of Bega’s needs. Indeed this flexibility, and the fact that both companies maintain rooms at the same temperatures, is one of the main reasons why Bega chose Pullar Cold Storage – that, and the fact that Bega can be confident when they access their stock it is in good condition and in the right location.
The Solution (Continued)
The Pullar Cold Storage site is strategically located close to the Bega site – another compelling benefit. As cheese may need to be matured over many months, and possibly be further reworked in the factory, the ability to move produce quickly between the two operations was an essential component in the drive to minimise overall supply chain costs.
  • “The team at Pullar Cold Storage are great to deal with. Our product is always managed well and kept in excellent condition. The guys are very professional and are always accommodating of any urgent needs we have.”

John PhillipsWarehouse and Distribution Manager, Bega Cheese
  • “We ask for things urgently all the time as things change quickly. Pullar Cold Storage are so responsive and I can honestly say they’ve never said no to any request. Their service and flexibility is exceptional.”

Business Challenge
Murray Goulburn’s growth and continuing success has led to a new challenge: finding enough storage space to accommodate the increasing levels of refrigerated product. In particular, Murray Goulburn needed a place to store overflows of cheese, and to handle seasonal peaks and troughs. This is where Pullar Cold Storage stepped in, providing the co-operative with just the solution they were looking for.
The Solution
Pullar Cold Storage were able to take up to 15,000 pallets, at various times, from Murray Goulburn, thereby greatly relieving the pressure on the co-operative’s internal supply chain. But Pullar Cold Storage was able to do a lot more than simply act as a storage facility. It was vital for Pullar Cold Storage to retrieve product at short notice for Murray Goulburn, and get cartons out quickly to perform carton inspections. Pullar Cold Storage could easily accommodate these needs.
The Solution (Continued)
Another bonus was Pullar Cold Storage’s ability to export -2 degrees products on Murray Goulburn’s behalf. Being located in Cobram close to Murray Goulburn has also been a strategic benefit. As cheese may need to be matured over many months, and possibly be further processed at the Cobram factory, the ability to move product quickly between the two operations was an essential component in the drive to minimise overall supply chain costs.
The Solution (Continued)
In addition, Pullar Cold Storage’s investment in the same highly sophisticated warehousing and materials handling system as that employed by Murray Goulburn has further streamlined processes between the two organisations. This system (provided by Melbourne firm Radio Terminal Systems) uses mobile and fixed scanners, sensors and pickers to handle the entire dispatch, delivery and warehousing process, and enables a high degree of synchronicity between the two companies.
  • “We have a very good working relationship with Pullar Cold Storage. We have very few customer complaints from their facility and always find them quick to respond to our needs.”

Phil SaundersNational Storage and Distribution Manager, Murray Goulburn Co-Op
  • “Pullar Cold Storage store our products the way we want them stored and provide us with total supply chain services and the systems to support it. They are very professional and always bend over backwards to help us.”
